Hazing Prevention Team

The purpose of the Hazing Prevention Team is to bring campus partners together to address hazing on the University of Alabama campus, educate the campus community on hazing, and empower the community to take action against hazing. The Hazing Prevention Team seeks to shift campus culture on hazing through prevention, early intervention, and continuous education.

Prevention

We seek to stop hazing before it happens through ongoing prevention programs which promote the rules and expectations of the University, assist students in making informed decisions, provide alternative methods for growing community, and empower student to hold peers accountable.

Identification and Action

Being able to identify and act on hazing is important for early intervention. The Hazing Prevention Team’s goal is to equip the campus community with the ability to recognize what hazing looks like from an internal and external perspective. The team provides clearly defined next steps and reporting resources for instances when a community member may suspect hazing is occurring.

Continuous Education

The Hazing Prevention Team seeks to address instances directly in a holistic and meaningful way. When an individual or organization is accused of hazing, the team provides necessary interventions and need-specific, research-based educational programs.

Membership

Membership is comprised of campus partners who support student organizations, who have direct involvement with the hazing investigation process or who are tasked with supporting holistic student well-being.
